Located in downtown Mount Airy, visitors will find the Blackmon Amphitheatre. A state of the art, outdoor theater, it offers a summer-long music series, along with other events and outdoor theater. Yadkin Valley wines and hot dogs are sold at select events.

Andy Griffith Museum

Home to the world's largest collection of Andy Griffith memorabilia and on permanent display, The Andy Griffith Museum is located next to the Andy Griffith Playhouse and a half-mile from Andy's boyhood home. The museum displays items collected by childhood friend Emmett Forrest, and encompasses iconic signs from the show's courthouse doors. Visitors will also see mementos from Don Knotts, who played Deputy Barney Fife, Betty Lunn who played Thelma Lou, and George Lindsey, who played Goober.

Jams at the Earle Theatre

Fans of live bluegrass and old-time music will want to visit the jams held at the Earle every Thursday and Saturday, where they will find local bands and individuals bands playing bluegrass and old-time music, all hosted by the Surry Arts Council. The Saturday jam session occurs from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., just before the live radio broadcast of WPAQ’s Merry-Go-Round. Admission is $5 on Saturdays.

Visit Pilot Mountain, which was the basis for the fictional town of Mount Pilot in “The Andy Griffith Show,” a nearby larger town near Mayberry. Just a little farther from the town of Pilot Mountain, is Pilot Mount State Park, known for its Big Pinnacle peak which dominates the scene for miles. In Downtown Pilot Mountain, you'll find gift stores, antique stores and other retail establishments. If you're lucky enough to visit on the first Saturday from May until October, you'll experience cruise-ins, which feature live beach music and food.

Kapps Mill Kayak Rentals

Kapps Mill Kayak Rentals is the perfect place for first timers. It's located near Dobson, NC on the Mitchell River. The Mitchell River is not deep and flows at a slow pace with no whitewater. With a few little runs, but nothing scary, beginners will find this river ideal. Kapps Mil offers a 45 min. trip called the mini-run for $10.00 per kayak and also a 2-hour run for $20.00 per kayak. Family rates or group rate available for 4 or more people. Must call by 9 a.m. the morning of the day you plan on kayaking to check for availability and to reserve kayaks. Mabry Mill

Mabry Mill is located at milepost 176 and is one of the most photographed sites on the Blue Ridge Parkway. This gristmill was built in 1910 and offers heritage demonstrations. It's open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. from the last weekend in April throughout October. The nearby Mabry Mill Restaurant and Gift Shop is open 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily from April through October.

Mount Airy Museum of Regional History

The museum collection includes history of the Saura Indians of the 1600s, the story of the world’s largest open-face granite quarry, the Yadkin River, the original Siamese Twins, Andy Griffith, Tommy Jarrell, transportation, and the history of Mount Airy and surrounding communities. The Mount Airy Museum of Regional History is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Groups should call ahead to arrange for a guided tour.

Siamese Twins Exhibit

The original Siamese Twins made their home in Surry County and are buried in nearby White Plains, six miles south of Mount Airy. During the early 1800s, the connected twins toured the United States and Europe under the auspices of Scottish trader Robert Hunter and New England sea captain Abel Coffin. They later toured again after the Civil War.

Friendship Motor Speedway

Friendship Motor Speedway is one of the hottest tracks within an hour’s drive of the NASCAR hub of Charlotte. The 4/10-mile, D-shaped paved oval track features races for modified, late models, mini-stocks, strictly stocks, chargers, and more. Races are usually held on Saturday nights with concessions and fun for the entire family.

How well do you know The Andy Griffith Show? Fans trek each fall to Griffith’s hometown each last week in September to celebrate “The Andy Griffith Show,” one of TV’s top 10 shows from 1960 to 1968. Events include autographs by surviving stars of the show, a pie eating contest, music, live shows, trivia contests, golf tournaments, chess tournaments, and a talent show. The week’s highlight is the Mayberry Days Parade down Main Street.
Held the first full weekend in June each year, the Mount Airy Fiddlers’ Convention is attended by thousands of bluegrass and old-time fans. The two-day event includes camping, food, and all-night jamming at the Veteran’s Memorial Park in Mount Airy. Free workshops and demonstrations are held each year to enable guests to interact with local traditional music and dance masters.
Held annually when the first buds appear on the wineries' vines, the festival features top North Carolina wineries and craft beer producers, wonderful food and great music.
Held annually each spring, there is a tractor parade, music, demonstrations, food and craft vendors, agricultural exhibits and pony rides.
The Autumn Leaves Festival showcases our rich musical heritage, such as Old-Time, Blue Grass and Gospel performed by local musicians on the downtown stage; the unique arts & crafts of more than 200 craftsmen line the streets with many demonstrating their talents and skills passed down through the generations; then there is "Food for the Soul", ham biscuits, collards & cornbread, barbeque, hamburgers, ground steak and more served with hospitality by our local civic and other community groups.

Beaver Creek Golf Course

Built in 1968, Beaver Creek Golf Course is a short, easy 9-hole course of par 36 with no water hazards or sand traps. It is located 12 miles west of Pilot Mountain and is open year-round with its high season during summer months.
Mount Airy is only 14 miles south of the Blue Ridge Parkway, America’s most visited National park. The Blue Ridge Parkway connects the Great Smoky Mountains in North Carolina to Shenandoah National Park in Virginia. Visitors enjoy the slow-paced and relaxing drive along 469 miles through the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Parkway can be accessed at Fancy Gap at U.S. 77.

Fisher River Park Mountain Biking Trail in Dobson features a 5.6-mile technical mountain biking trail with several bridges, short climbs, a creek crossing, and long-double track sections. There are several tight single-track sections and turns along with wide open single track sections for mixed variety. The trail has two rock gardens which are good for climbing.
